The Comfortable Captives

Leaving Babylon, pg.61

materialism 2One of the major obstacles to leaving Babylon is our love of her pleasures. Babylon is very clever. She knows she must continue to deceive mankind in order for us to stay within her walls and reject God’s truth. Therefore, she has become a master at soothing our flesh. She knows all too well how to keep us comfortable in our captivity.

God will and does give good gifts to His children and to the world, but as a good Father, He does not ruin us with pleasures that destroy our souls. He created this beautiful planet for us to live in and enjoy. He created us to have good and healthy relationships with Him and each other. When we speak of the “pleasures” of Babylon, we speak of the things that soothe and comfort us at the expense of our relationship with God, those things that are offered to us in exchange for our obedience to the Father. Such an exchange took place in the garden of Eden when Eve was offered the forbidden fruit in exchange for her allegiance to God.

The Inner Work

man praying on floorWhat your accusers cannot see is the inner work that is taking place in you before God — the renewing of your mind, the strength, the determination, the faith, the love and the persuasion toward God that is springing forth in your spirit. Finally, you are convinced, finally, you believe Him, and so you will forever be changed!
Sessions in Pain pg. 129

The Inner Work in you is the most crucial. It is the work that changes everything – it makes the Warriors, Kings and Queens for the Kingdom of God. The Inner Work is the difference that is forged in solitude and isolation with your Lord. This is the work that sets your face like flint and takes you from the common…

The Ancient Love Story

by Dr. Karen Colvin on April 9, 2015

in Word of the Week

images-2 Why is God so committed to us leaving Babylon? Why does He remain with us through our countless mistakes to gather us out of her evil embrace? There is an ancient love story about God and mankind. It began with the radiant love of our Creator who spoke into existence our world and our race. We were created a race of beings for Him to love and care for, eternally. But the Creator had an enemy who hated all that the Creator cherished and loved. The enemy hated our race and sought to destroy it. The enemy succeeded in deceiving us through a lie, and he dragged us into captivity to Babylon. But the Creator, though brokenhearted, did not abandon us. His love for us was too deep to relinquish us to evil. We were His. Our world was His, and He would fight for us.wedding ring heart

Missing the Great Places

by Dr. Karen Colvin on April 3, 2015

in Word of the Week

Jesus Christ Crucifixion on Good Friday SilhouetteWe hold so tightly to our things, our careers, our place in society, and even our families but miss going to the great places in God. Only His agenda will matter in the end. I implore you not to miss it! Quiet your heart and mind—listen, and He will speak His plans to you.

Sessions in Pain pg. 134

Christ wants to take you to the great places in Him; places where you no longer live in fear, in doubt, and in pride. It is place where peace rules. Christ’s disciples did not understand how He was taking them to the great places – it is usually the opposite of what we have learned in Babylon – it is a journey that requires faith in this life…

All His!

by Dr. Karen Colvin on March 28, 2015

in Word of the Week

earth_in_handsIt took David three months to understand how God wanted His presence ushered in before His people. How long is it taking you? How long is it taking you to understand that it’s all His: every person, every child, every wife, every husband, every object that exists in time and space is His! “The earth is the Lord’s, and all its fullness…” (Psalm 24:1).

Sessions in Pain pg. 101

How foolish we can be to think that God will compromise His ways for us; that somehow we can take ownership of something or someone that has always been His. How comforting it is to know that He will not change. He did not change for King David (a man after His own heart) and He will not change for you or I. What better place for the world to lie than in God’s unchanging hands?

Still in Pain

by Dr. Karen Colvin on March 20, 2015

in ZUncategorized

gun praisesyria-terrorist-attack3 As we look at all the acts of devastation committed by men and women in our world today, from those of terrorism, to acts of vengeance, to addictions, to perverted behaviors, many are born out of the desire to relieve heartfelt pain—but it is all a lie! Unfortunately, many do not realize the lie until they have carried out the agenda of Satan and have lost everything; their relationships have been destroyed, people have died, and they are still in pain.

Sessions in Pain pg. 112

There is only One relief  for the tortured human soul, and that is the Savior of gun at the crosshumanity, Jesus Christ. The old song goes, “When you’ve tried everything and everything has failed, try Jesus”; but I implore you to Try Jesus First! Before you exact revenge, or engage in perversions, and habits to relieve your aching heart – Try Jesus. Get quiet before Him and listen for the still small voice that will minister to the depths of your pain.

Leaving Babylon: Unmasking the Great Prostitute

By Dr. Karen Colvin

The day comes for all of us to make the choice to leave Babylon or to stay within her walls. It is a difficult choice because we were all born in Babylon, educated in her, and most of us have lived out our lives in her societies. For many of us, she is camouflaged so well that we do not believe that she exists.
She has taught us to live our lives under a lie, hiding and afraid. Her power over humanity is in her anonymity. Her deception thrives in our unbelief of her existence.

God’s love for humanity calls to us to leave her so that we may be set free to live in His kingdom.

Leaving Babylon tells of a spiritual journey in facing the human condition both as an individual and as members of a race of beings who are in desperate need of rescue. We exist afraid of the truths of our vulnerabilities, when we can live in security as children of the Living God.

There is hope and help for us, but we must have the courage and faith to look our oppressor in the eye, take hold of our Father’s hand, and “leave Babylon.”

FAILING TO LOVE

by Dr. Karen Colvin on March 6, 2015

in Word of the Week

job-rebuked-by-his-friendsLoving is where the friends of Job missed the mark. They preached, they quoted the teachings of God, they analyzed Job’s situation but they failed to love him. We are commanded to speak the truth in love.

Sessions in Pain pg. 186

The awesome thing about love is that is transcends temporal emotions and moves into the eternal and the unconditional. The more I grow in God that more I am aware of how little I know about Loving.  When I fail to love, He teaches and changes me toward His love; He is patient and kind – not giving me what I deserve but displaying to me what it is to truly lay down my life for another.

He look beyond all of my faults and saw…my Need. – Andre CrouchCHRIST CARES

Around and Around

by Dr. Karen Colvin on February 27, 2015

in Word of the Week

walking in circles at the foot of the mountain As much as your flesh desires to scream out the injustices done to you over and over again, resist it. Such behavior avails very little and often sets you back in your spiritual strength. You will keep going around and around, reliving the injustices and never progressing toward a place of peace in your spirit. This must be recognized as a device the enemy uses to keep your mind in turmoil and bondage.

Sessions in Pain pg. 163

Aren’t you tired of going around and around the same mountain? No progress in your spirit, mind, will and emotions. Still vulnerable year after year to the same  fears, the same anger, and the same behaviors. Beloved, Jesus died so that you could overcome. He died so that you can stop going around the mountain and in His name…

The Secret Place

by Dr. Karen Colvin on February 20, 2015

in ZUncategorized

god-within.the secret placeIf you find yourself in that alone place with God as you are experiencing great pain, meet with Him there. Cry, scream, plead and pour out yourself before Him; He can handle your anger and your confusion. This is the place where intimacy with Him is forged—the secret place.

Sessions in Pain Pg. 89

I love the Secret Place. It is a place where I can find total acceptance even in light of my past and present mistakes. God loves me there, He forgives me there, and He teaches me there.
